Friends, today in this article we will learn about back-to-back test on transformer. I am going to give information about all these in a very good way. So let’s start.
Back-to-back test on transformer –
This test is done to measure the efficiency, regulation of the transformer as well as the temperature rise at full load, this is possible only when two identical transformers are installed.
One transformer is loaded and both are connected to the supply on the other side, it is necessary to take energy from the supply to negligible the losses of both the transformers and the minor losses in the control circuit. As shown in the figure, the primary coils of both the transformers are connected in parallel to the same alternating current supply. When switcher ऽ is open, in this case the w_{1} wattmeter measures the core loss of both the transformers. The secondary coils of transformers are connected in such a way that their potentials are opposite to each other, like V AB = V CD and A is connected to C and B is connected to D, in this case no other current flows in the loop formed by both the secondary coils.
T is a normal low voltage transformer which gives current and variable voltage in the secondary loop circuit and regulates both.
If T is arranged correctly then current I2 starts flowing in the secondary loop, as shown in the figure I2 flows from D to C and from A to B and current I 1 flows in the loop FEJLGHMF which does not pass through w1 wattmeter, w1 continuously calculates the core loss and w2 calculates the copper loss at full load. Thus we use double current in the losses of the same transformer.
